Etihad Airways to Use AviIT's ACARS Technology
Flt Tech Online
Etihad Airways will use AviIT's ACARS (aircraft communications addressing and reporting system) services across its entire fleet.
As part of the contract, AviIT has implemented its Archimedes and Airboard systems to maximize the commercial and operational benefits that the Abu-Dhabi based airline can derive from AOC (airline operational control) datalink technology.
Archimedes decodes ACARS message data and presents it in easily configurable formats to an airline's ground-based operation staff and engineers for diagnostic and management information systems.
Airboard interfaces with Archimedes to provide airline operations and engineering personnel with information regarding the phase-of-flight and status of their ACAR's equipped aircraft, without constant monitoring. Alarms can be configured on specific events such as alerts and warnings from an aircraft’s ECAM (electronic centralized aircraft monitoring) or EICAS (engine indication and crew alerting system).
AviIT says Airboard also includes a user configurable dashboard display to allow users to monitor a single aircraft in more detail. It also provides a graphical flight tracking and location plotting facility on which pertinent information, such as weather, can be overlaid.
In addition, Airboard provides the ability to easily create and deliver information via the most suitable media such as display screens, email, and SMS (short message service) that is tailored to different departmental requirements.
AviIT says it's working with Etihad personnel to standardize ACARS usage across the airline's fleet, implement advanced services such as an automated flight log, and integrate ACARS data with engineering fault diagnostic systems, as well as crew planning and fuel planning systems. 02-22-2008.
